Mattias is one of the most prolific action-sport photographers of our time. Focusing on skiing and mountain biking, his dedication, talent and understanding of these milieus have combined to boost him to this echelon.
After living in Riksgränsen, Sweden, for two seasons, Fredriksson began a career in print journalism with Vertikal Magazine, eventually landing in Åre as editor of Sweden’s national ski magazine, Åka Skidor. In 2000 he left the post to focus on freelance photography, and his work now appears in all the world’s top ski and bike magazines – some 30 publications – as well as top travel and outdoor magazines in a dozen different countries. He is listed as Senior Photographer at Powder (USA), SBC Skier (Canada), Skiing: the next level (Germany), Skimbaaja (Finland), Fri Flyt (Norway), Transition (Sweden), and also acts as Photo Editor for the award-winning Peak Performance magazine. He was an invited presenter at the 2003 Pro Photographer’s Showdown in Whistler, Canada, and the 2004 Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, USA. He spends both winters and summers traveling to work with an international collection of athletes, among whom he enjoys a reputation for bringing up-and-coming talent to the fore.
Fusing the subtlety of natural mountain light with the unpredictability of human motion, Fredriksson’s work offers a potent mix of quiet alpine moments, screaming action, and creative portraiture. The 35 year-old is still based in the resort town of Åre, where he enjoys life between trips around the globe.
